The one where you learn how to create less content and get more followers

Content coaches are burning creators out, and you don’t need more content. You need the right content.

You don’t need more content, you need better content.  You don’t need to give more value, you need clear brand values.

Here’s why so many creators are burning out from content, or worse, not creating at all…

  • You’re creating content without your personal brand values, mission, and vision in mind.  This will lead your energy straight into the toilet.  Why?  It’s like starting down the beginning of 12 different trails with no destination, always looping back to where you started, and never really getting anywhere.  Sure, you’ll get results and see some cool things down each trail, but you never actually make it anywhere you want to go.  Or worse, you end up at someone else’s dream or end result and have to burn it all down again.

  • Too much education content… “But give value, they said!” Ok but education and advice does not a brand make.  No one ever said… “that guy changed my life, he taught me 3 tips to….” Education without brand or reason behind it leaves people uninspired and overwhelmed from all of the “how to..” Things they need to go implement.  You don’t want to build a following of information hoarders.  You want to help people see things the way you see them. You want them to think differently, then take action.  Education content without “why” behind it, or personal belief and logic as to WHY it matters, leaves your knowledge on the shelf of info hoarding to collect dust.  Sure, they saved your post and it got traction! YAYYY! But it did not convert to a follow or sale.  Education without connection is work you’re doing without getting your desired result.

  • Following too many “do this to go viral” trends.  Stop chasing virility, especially if you don’t have the systems, lead capture, and sales process ready to go.  You can’t even take advantage of virility, even if it happens to you… so stop seeking it.  You want a simple content plan that you can actually execute consistently.  (More below)

  • You’re growing an audience of the wrong people- Sure you might be making content and getting opt ins to your list, but are they even the right people?  I learned this the hard way… years I spent with no clear direction.  Just creating, creating courses, and content, and sharing value, but some of the things I tried and launched were out of alignment with my own brand values and I didn’t even know it!   Creator coaches are out here burning you out because you feel like you’re showing up, doing all of the things, but it’s not converting the way you thought it would. You aren’t attracting buyers and followers that share YOUR values.  Sure they wanted to follow you for that helpful tip you shared, but do they actually want to be a part of what you’re building?  Or are they there so they can take from you, every drop they can get before they unfollow.  You don’t want more followers, you want more buyers, more people in your corner for your movement.  That requires connection, and we all know we don’t connect easily with people that don’t share our core personal values.   IF they don’t share your values, they will bounce and disengage as soon as you show a sign of not aligning with them.. This kills your engagement.  You can’t truly grow the right audience of raving fans until you are clear on your brand values and personal mission statement.

Let’s fix this problem together. Here’s how I got back to creating and loving it!

Step 1: Clearly define your personal brand values

Pick 4-8 words that are the foundation on which your brand stands. These words articulate the basis on which you build your mission and view of the world.

You can pick them by doing a values quiz like https://personalvalu.es/

Or ask yourself or people close to you these questions…

  1. What is the one quality that almost everyone in your inner circle possesses, including yourself?

  2. What historical figure do you admire most, and why?

  3. When you were a kid, who was your hero? What trait did they possess that you wanted to acquire?

  4. On your death bed, what do you want people to remember about you?  How would they describe the life you’ve lived or how you lived it?

  5. What do you wish the world had more of?

Mine are:

Family First: We are committed to work life balance. When you have a stand out brand, you can say no to more and spend time on what matters. When you make bank online, you can build a brand and business around your life.

Freedom: Your brand should make you bank. When you make bank, doors open, opportunities find you, and no’s disappear. Financial freedom isn’t just about buying fancy stuff, it’s about creating opportunities and options.

Fun: If it’s not fun, we don’t do it.

Simplicity: We think building and monetizing your brand should be simple. It’s not always easy but it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Authenticity/Connection: Being your true self, amplified. You get to be all of you and super successful.

Human First: We believe nice guys finish first. Everything is done with kindness and empathy.

Step 2: Personal Mission or Value Statement.

Most people skip the help statement because they are multi talented or multi passionate.   You don’t have to have a crazy small micro niche, but articulating what you do, and who you do it for… not only grows your audience faster, with your ideal customers, but makes your life just overall easier.

Here are some great examples. Keep it simple.

Once you’ve clearly identified your core personal brand values, now you want to outline your personal statement. You can use Chat GPT to plug in the tone of how you want to sound, your identity or title, and your brand values.

Here’s how to use Chat GPT for your personal statement.

Your Brand Statement AI prompts

Identity: What do you want to be known as? (examples: people builder, founder, CEO, innovator, optimist, your professional title, your best personality trait, or what you’re building as your identity)

Tone: How do you want people to feel about you? Trustworthy, expert and authoritative, friendly, innovative and forward thinking, inspiring and motivational, passionate and enthusiastic, witty and humorous. You can choose a combination.

Mission: You can skip this if your brand identity is your mission. What are you seeking to achieve? Who are you helping? What are you helping them accomplish?

Values: Add your brand values here

Plus add this prompt.

“I’m crafting my personal brand bio statement for LinkedIn, my website, and other social platforms. Help me create a 1-2 sentence statement that is simple, to the point, and articulates the following (insert your Identity, tone, mission, and values)”

Step 3: Play the long game

There will always be trends and fads in content creation.  There will always be competition. There will be experts who tell you that you have to be on video or you’ll become irrelevant.  Don’t listen to ultimatums.  No expert knows everything.  Do whatever you can do that is consistent.  Create your own version of consistency.  Maybe that’s once a week for a year?  Maybe it’s daily? Or just on weekdays. Stay consistent for a year.   Pick a medium you can do easily, if its writing, then write. If its video, then video.  KEEP IT SIMPLE. Don’t add too much too soon.

If you’ve fallen out of love with your brand, content creation, or have been procrastinating building an audience on social media because it’s too overwhelming.

I’ve been creating content on social media for over a decade, regularly.  I’ve fallen out of love with creating more times than I can count.

I’ve wanted to burn my laptop, sell everything I own, and go live in the woods.

I’ve been on stages teaching content while secretly wishing I wasn’t being seen. You have more to give, your message is valuable.

Until Next week Trailblazers.
